Easter Bunny Bento Box

Ah, the first day of Spring! Today seems like a great day to post an Easter bento, and here is one I made for my grandson.

bunny sandwiches in an easylunchbox

I packed this in one of my EasyLunchboxes , and it contains 2 bunny ham and cheese sandwiches. I made the sandwiches by cutting the bread, ham, and cheese with a bunny shaped cookie cutter. I also used a small oval cookie cutter ( from a linzer cutter set) to cut the bunny cheeks out of white bread. I have some assorted tiny cookie cutters that I used to cut the ham for the noses and ears. I used a straw to cut the eyes out of cheese, and a little round nori punch for the center of the eye.

The flowers and leaves are made of cheese. I used a mini flower cookie cutter and a larger straw (to cut out the flower center). Straws are so useful as bento tools!

I didn't have to worry about this bento getting  jostled around in a lunch box - my little Bento Buddy comes over to grandma's house and eats in his highchair 🙂 But if I were packing this to send to school, I would lay some leafy lettuce in the lunch box, then place the sandwich and flowers on top of that. Lettuce can sometimes play the part of "bubble wrap" of sorts to cushion things and keep them from shifting around. Another idea would be to place a folded cloth napkin on top of the bunny and flowers - I just happen to sell those in my Etsy shop 🙂  They are small, cocktail sized napkins that are just the perfect size for tucking into a bento box. On the side there is some broccoli, snap peas, and carrot curl flowers ( from a bag of "colorful carrots" I got from Trader Joe's). On the fruit side there are raspberries, kiwi chunks, and chicks made from cantaloupe - I used a cute cutter for that one too. Here's where you can find the tools I used to make this lunch:

This is adorable! My daughters would love to have this and you make it look so easy! In the day & age of fast food lunches with toys, this is the perfect alternative to a fun, healthy lunch! And no matter what season, bunnies are cute!

That's a great point that I hadn't considered - the food itself can be the toy/treat! Bento = happy meal 🙂
