In place of Fancy Sandwich Friday today, I'm taking part in a Dr. Who blog hop with my bento blog buddies :)
My lunch today is based on the episode " The Eleventh Hour" from season 5. I've seen more episodes from this season than any other ( so far). I really like Amy Pond, and I think Matt Smith makes a great Doctor! To help explain my lunch, here's a video clip:
So here's what my hubby is taking for lunch today:
It should look like fish fingers and custard - but I admit, I didn't have any fish, so these are actually chicken fingers and custard : ) I made them gluten free and they turned out really good - so we're all eating chicken fingers for lunch today. The breading is made from a combination of instant potato flakes, millet flour, and tapioca starch with a sprinkle of dry chicken boullion powder and seasoned salt for flavor. The "custard" is actually lemon pudding. The chicken fingers are on a bed of rice, and have a few veggies as a garnish. The letters are cheddar cheese.
Why the apple? In the episode " The Eleventh Hour" Amy, as a little girl, gives the doctor an apple with a smiley face.
When he returns, 12 years later than he said he would - he convinces Amy that he's a real time traveler by giving her back the same apple, as fresh as the day he got it.
If you'd like to see what other bento bloggers are cooking up for the Dr. Who Blog Hop, hop on over to BentOnBetterLunches to see what's for lunch!

Okay, so I admit it .... I actually got a little teary-eyed over the smiley apple. *sigh*
